Episode 157 - 2001: A Year In The Life Of Metallica

METAL UP YOUR PODCAST - All Things Metallica - A podcast by Clint Wells

We continue our 'A Year In the Life of Metallica' series by diving into 2001. This is arguably one of the most tumultuous and defining years the band has faced, beginning with the shocking departure of long time bass player Jason Newsted in January. Without a replacement, the band moved into the Presidio to start writing and recording what would ultimately become St. Anger. But those sessions were cut short when James Hetfield checked himself into rehab in June for alcohol and other addictions. The year ends with James finally returning home from rehab and with the future of Metallica uncertain. Other notable events this year include: - Lars as a celebrity guest on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - the release of the Playboy Interview - live collaborations with Corrosion of Conformity, Jerry Cantrell and Sammy Hagar - "The Call of Ktulu" wins a Grammy award - McFarlane releases the Justice era action figures - Metallica ad Napster settle their lawsuit
