On this very personal episode, Clint chats with Aaron Shaffer, a close friend of nearly 30 years. They met in second grade and would go on to spend their formative years through high school and college obsessing over music together and playing in bands, including a Metallica cover band. In high school their favorite band was Metallica, and together they traveled to Atlanta in the summer of 2000 to see their first show, the infamous Georgia Dome gig without James Hetfield. In this conversation, Clint and Aaron take a trip down memory lane to talk about the early days of their friendship and the first deep ties to the music they love. It’s a celebration of the power music has to bring two unlikely misfits together through the many chapters of life. Topics and bands covered: - METALLICA (duh) - Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana - Faith No More and Red Hot Chili Peppers - Smashing Pumpkins, GNR and STP - Michael Jackson and early 90’s hip hop - watching the OJ chase together - attraction to horror films and heavy music as good kids - hearing “Paradise City” for the first time - hearing “Wonderwall” for the first time - learning guitar with Metallica - insulting John Mayer in the mall - working in an independent record store together - our first Metallica concert (Summer Sanitarium 2000) - seeing Pearl Jam, A Perfect Circle and Tool - Aaron gets peed on at a Dave Matthews Band Concert - getting back in touch with physical media - their local rock club growing up The Nick This episode features selections from Aaron's band, Alabama based Cordova.
